How do you use a nicotine pouch, step by step?
- Read the lid. Check the strength (mg per pouch) and the format, such as Mini or Slim. On PouchSelect every can also shows our 6-dot strength rating.
- Open the can and take out one pouch.
- Place it between your gum and upper lip. This is where FDA says pouches are typically placed.
- Leave it in place. There is no need to spit, and nothing to light or heat.
- Take it out when you are done and throw it away where children and pets can't reach it.
If the can prints its own directions, follow those.
Where does the pouch go?
Between the gum and upper lip. FDA describes nicotine pouches as "typically placed between the gum and upper lip, where the nicotine is absorbed into the body."
Do you need to spit or light anything?
No to both. FDA describes nicotine pouches as small fiber pouches that "can be used without spitting," and says they "are not intended to be heated or burned (combusted)." There is no device to charge and nothing to light.
How long do you keep a pouch in?
Follow the directions printed on the can. PouchSelect doesn't set a time, and we don't give one here because it depends on the product.
Which strength should you use?
If you are new to a brand, start at the strength you already use. Compare by mg per pouch, or by PouchSelect's strength dots: every can on PouchSelect is rated on one 6-dot scale, where 2 dots is 6 mg, 3 dots 8 mg, 4 dots 10 mg, 5 dots 17 mg and 6 dots 20 mg per pouch. The dots printed on a maker's own lid follow that brand's scale, so they don't compare across brands.
Nicotine pouch strength explained covers this in detail, and the strength guide groups the shelf from light to extra strong.
How do you throw away a used pouch?
Put used pouches in a closed trash bin, not loose on a table, in a car or in an open bag. Keep both new and used pouches out of reach of children and pets. For keeping unopened cans, see how to store nicotine pouches.
WARNING: This product contains nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive chemical.
