Mini vs slim nicotine pouches explained

Mini and Slim are format names that brands use for the size and shape of the pouch. Format is listed separately from strength and flavor, and the same flavor can come in more than one format at a different strength. On PouchSelect, ZYN comes in both Mini and Slim cans, and every listing shows the format as it is printed on the can.

Updated

What does format mean on a nicotine pouch can?

Format is the name a brand gives to the pouch's size and shape. You will find it printed on the can next to the flavor, for example "Cool Mint Mini" or "Spearmint Slim." PouchSelect lists the format exactly as it reads on the can, so the name on our product page matches the name on the lid.

What is the difference between mini and slim?

Both names describe the pouch itself, not the nicotine in it. Each brand decides what its Mini and Slim pouches are, so the details belong to the maker. If you want to know the exact size of a pouch, check the brand's description on the can. Whatever the format, FDA describes nicotine pouches as small fiber pouches that are typically placed between the gum and upper lip.

What matters when you shop is that the format is one of three separate choices on every can: strength, flavor and format.

Does format change the strength?

Not by itself. Strength is set for each product, so always read the mg per pouch and the strength dots rather than going by format.

On our shelf, ZYN Cool Mint comes in both formats at different strengths: the Mini can is 6 mg per pouch (2 of 6 strength dots) and the Slim can is 10 mg (4 of 6 dots). See nicotine pouch strength explained for how to read both numbers.

Which formats does PouchSelect carry?

At the time of writing (October 2026) the shelf looked like this. The live list is always on the formats page.

BrandFormatFlavors on our shelf
ZYNMiniApple Mint, Black Cherry, Black Licorice, Citrus, Coffee, Cool Mint
ZYNSlimCool Mint, Red Fruits, Spearmint, Watermelon Mint
Pablo[Pablo pouch format per manufacturer]14 flavors in the Gold Edition line, all 17 mg per pouch

"Gold Edition" is the name of the Pablo product line, not a pouch format.

How do you choose between mini and slim?

It comes down to preference. A simple way to decide:

  1. Pick the strength you already use, by mg per pouch.
  2. Pick a flavor family.
  3. Then compare the formats that flavor comes in, and try a single can before buying a roll or carton.

Can you compare formats across brands?

Only loosely. Because each brand sets its own formats, a Mini from one brand is not a standard size shared with every other brand's Mini. Compare formats within a brand, and compare strength across brands by mg per pouch.

Frequently asked questions

Is a mini pouch weaker than a slim pouch?

Not necessarily. Format and strength are separate: on our shelf, ZYN Cool Mint Mini is 6 mg per pouch (2 of 6 dots) and ZYN Cool Mint Slim is 10 mg (4 of 6 dots), so always check each can.

Who decides what counts as mini or slim?

The brand. Each maker names and defines its own formats, which is why PouchSelect lists the format exactly as printed on the can.

Which brands come in mini and slim on PouchSelect?

ZYN comes in both Mini and Slim cans on our shelf. See the formats page for the live list.
